Dear All,

I am writing to appeal to everyone who is associated with this great Cricket Club. Players, Officials, Supporters, Parents, Helpers, Tea Ladies, Wives, Girlfriends and Children alike need to work together to take our club forward. Not enough is done at the club to raise money from the vast resources at our disposal. The facilities that we see and take for granted are ageing and mostly needing some level of renovation (victims of our own popularity and success). There are plans afoot for renovating and extending the pavilion, which personally I find very exciting (a home changing room where you have space to swing a cat would be fantastic for starters) and pray that the plans come to fruition, but as the club grows and expands, this is going to put greater strain on resources and facilities – a need that needs addressing.

In the past, whenever fundraising has been mentioned – the odd golf day and race night aside – people tend to look to others to do something – and nothing gets done. Friday nights have proved incredibly successful, but don’t forget that the cricket club only gets a small percentage of bar takings. This cannot go on if the club is to grow and improve and be the big, successful club it wants to be. My idea to set the ball rolling is nothing new, many of you may already be involved in such a scheme elsewhere, and is something I have been meaning to administrate for a number of years to give something back to the club where I have enjoyed nine memorable years (so far) of cricket and friendship.

A 200 Club would involve up to 200 people (or more!) each paying a pound a week every week by standing order into club funds, or alternatively you can pay for a years worth of entries in advance by cheque (£52 I make it). In return for this, there would be a weekly random draw, on a Friday night (the club is open every Friday evening) offering three cash prizes and an additional monthly big prize on the last Friday of every month – with winners published on the Wollaton website. This will also raise awareness of the Wollaton website and bring it more hits, as people check to see if they are in the money.

We plan for the launch and first draw to be on the night of the Race Night at the club on the 18th April, which means we have to move very quickly with this.

The exact logistics and prize money is to be decided and to be communicated when we know the numbers of entrants. If we are aiming at 200 people something like first prize of £50, second £20 and third £10, with £20 rolling over every week to go towards a larger prize on the last Friday of every month sounds reasonable. Also, you can contribute more than a pound a week, and additionally, your Gran/Auntie/Cat/Dog might quite fancy contributing. Once set up, the scheme is fairly easy to administer and will hopefully just run and run (through the winter also – giving the club vital income in the off-season).

Everything raised will be ploughed back into the club, in the form of improved playing facilities, equipment, décor and surroundings. This is a really easy way of raising funds and no-one realistically will miss one pound a week.

I hope you will support the club in this initiative – please forward all pledges and names to me or (on the email address below) or Zueb (Club Treasurer) and we will then deal with the onerous task of getting 200+ standing orders set up. I am open to feedback, thoughts, ideas, experiences good and bad, and anything that will help make this a success.

The details of how to contribute are below.   Please read and act now!

Kind regards,
