WOLLATON v CLAYPOLE

Newark Alliance Division 5

Sunday 4 May 2008

The Division 5 side with Vinny at the helm along with overseas star Mick Delaney entertained Claypole on a dreary day at hq.

Claypole batted first and Asim ripped through their top order taking 4 wickets, backed up by Joe Potter, and they were soon 15 – 5.  Unfortunately, Claypole’s best batsman came in 6 & 7, and soon started to taking the game away from the inexperienced Wollaton side.  While there were no real disasters in the field, the fielding became ragged as Claypole took control.

Kieran made the breakthrough taking the 6th wicket and would end up with 3 wickets, but Claypole’s best batsman carried on plundering the Wollaton attack.  It needed both Mick and Crossers to be brought back to take the last 2 wickets to bowl them out for 155.

With Paul playing as Captain only, it was going to need Crossers and Mick to play substantial innings, with the Junior players offering support.  It wasn’t to be.  Against some useful opening bowling, Alex King would go followed by Crossers and then wickets fell like confetti including Mick 1st ball!  By the time he got back to the dressing room, Big Sav was already on the phone making some sympathetic comments to Mick!!

However there was some excellent batting from the Joe’s, Fish and Potter which at least made the score semi respectable, Joe Potter being unlucky to go taken by a blinder at slip.  80 odd all out (I believe).

Disappointing end to a game that had started so well.
