Many memories come rushing forth when thinking about Wollaton CC.  Some of my most vivid thoughts involve game scenarios, special team/individual performances and amusing alcohol fuelled antics in the clubhouse. I have chosen one of each to embellish.

Game Scenario:

Without doubt, my most memorable game scenario was a game very early on in the history of the Notts premier league against West Indian Cavaliers.  Unfortunately it is not a fond memory as we were dismissed for a measly 23.  I remember being petrified at the thought of facing Colwyn Cort and even more petrified having got some bat on his second delivery, running it away for 3 runs (7.6% of our total)

Special team/individual performances:

Curzo's century against the cavs.  Brilliant innings.  Lynden Joseph bowled progressively quicker and Curzo dispatched Joseph's bouncers progressively further out of the ground.

Alcohol fuelled antics:

Jaya's filthy yard (no innuendo intended).  Any number of things uttered by Fighter after 6 pints of Kronenburg.

Final thought (My Jerry Springer moment)

One final memory i thought it worth mentioning comes from the 2006 away fixture against Thoresby Colliery.  I cant remember what number batsman was involved but the individual was obviously not fully aware of his responsibility to avoid the danger area when running between the wickets.

Karl decided it would be a good idea to remind him.

Unfortunately Karl's timing was not the greatest.

The batsmen in question mistimed a shot and looped the ball into the air towards Edward 'safe hands' Savill at mid-on.    Karl chose the second before the ball was due to nestle into Ed's hands to shout (extremely loudly) his reminder 'GET OFF THE WICKET'.  Ed's nerves, as with most people on the ground, were shattered into a million tiny fragments at the sound of Karl's timely reminder and subsequently spilled what was due to be a very straightforward catch.

Very amusing!!

'Obviously, like everyone there are plenty of amazing memories during my time at the club, i could go on forever! however there is one for me that sticks out and is a little off the wall compared to others.

In my first season back (2002) after a 4 year sabbatical, we were bottom half way through the season. We had just lost away at Blidworth and to say it looked grim would be an understatement! Under the leadership of the Big Man and Karl as vice, drastic action was taken! In came dick of the day, awards and the 'team spirit' that remains today throughout the club.

We went on to win 9 out of 11 thanks to great team efforts, stay up and progress every year since. Thanks to Rob Kirkwoods junior revolution, a driven committee lead by Gren, Crossers, Gerry and others and Hunty pulling pints the club is very healthy and a fantastic spirit is evident throughout the club from friday night kwik cricketers to the 1st team.

Even though 2007 was my first year at the club, I do feel I have been playing at the club for years. Thanks to all of you for the good times. I enjoyed the start of my cricketing career at WCC under the watchful eye of Tricky! My first opportunity to represent the second team was a cup game against Gedling Colliery II. It was a very close game in front of home crowd, which we won in the last over. It was a hard fought win and will forever live in my memory chip! Stuart Cobbett hitting huge six over midwicket in a 20-20 game but umpire (only person who got it wrong), signalled four! Look forward to many more seasons and happy memories in years to come.

Playing in, and winning, two 2nd eleven cup finals. Tom's innings at Kimberley, Bad Boy's innings at Papplewick when Foottit was bowling rather quickly. Ed dropping a simple catch due to Karl shouting at the batsman to 'get off the effing wicket.' AK turning up and bowling while seemingly still drunk v Kimberley. End of season Sunday games at Leicester Banks. Lots of amusing and entertaining days spent in good company, often with guys I'd been playing cricket with since the age of ten or eleven (and of course Gerry, who was my first coach when starting out in junior cricket.)

One day in particular stands out, for comedy rather than cricketing reasons - 1st team away at Blidworth a few years ago. While Karl scored a hundred and the rest of the top order made runs, Pasty had been sitting with his pads on throughout the innings. Finally he strode out to the middle and was promptly dispatched by the umpire, lbw first ball. Most of us had the sense to stay quiet, but Mark Bott burst out laughing, a reaction that drew death threats from an enraged Pasty. With a big score already on the board, Dave Sumner decided to block out the last few overs in order to keep wickets in hand. This resulted in Vince being run out and 'accidentally' throwing his bat, much to the displeasure of the locals. Pasty then managed to bowl their opener twice - each time knocking off stump out of the ground. Each time the umpire signalled no ball.

Several.--- Centuries by Karl and Curzo against Cavs. Beating Cavs and Kimberley. Astonishing slip catches by Big John and Karl. Stunning, one handed, running catch by Paul Andrew at deep backward square at Belvoir in 1736. A superb, quick, diving catch for me by keeper Alan Bullock. Colin running Bilal out by a country mile with a 'siege gun' throw when we all knew it was going to happen after Greg Mike shouted ' Two - it's to an old man!' Several 'proud dad' moments playing with Paul. Bowling a 'confident'

Chris Lewis with a 'moonish', spinning ball behind his legs and Tim Robinson saying something like - 'Now you have to go off to the pavilion and change your clothes Chris !' My 'hex' over certain opposition batters. Any occasion when the ball leaves my hand and does as instructed. The synopsis of events / issues by Jon Hunt and / or Tricky. Many 'dour but needed' or 'explosive and influential' innings by many players. All 'wicket somersaulting' balls by Tom and others. Many mean, lean bowling spells by Colin and others which encouraged 'batting suicide' to me and others at t'other end. --- Just a few to be going on with, I wouldn't want to spoil sales of my memoirs.

strength Welbeck with half a side, The Beast against Retford when two of my team mates jointly carried it out, Beating Cavs as Captain, and my two pulled sixes off Lyndon. Will that do?
