1.The sunny day when Karl played in my opinion the best knock at  local cricket against Retford I have seen. When the beast is called for,  then I always knew  as captain that we had a good score.

2.One of the funniest was when I was batting against a certain ex Notts left arm spinner who had a reputation for liking the sound of his own voice. At the other end was Gerry and the abuse that I heard for 4 overs aimed at Gerry I thought was getting out of control,at this point most unlike me I know,  I was getting a little heated myself. I suggested to Gerry that he should officially complain and the response was classic ' Complain me,  I thought it was aimed at you,  I have a cold and I' am wearing an helmet so I couldn't hear what he was saying' The next ball he hit it for 4 and said walking back' I told you and everybody  I played against much better idiots when I was in Lancashire'

3rd place – 2020 cup final victory over Welbeck.  Welbeck were at virtual full strength, Wollaton’s 12 man squad included me, Cobbler & Paras out of the 2nds and even The Cat played.  Yours truly opened the bowling, Paras & Ed also bowled, but thanks to Karl especially (sun hated facing Charlie Shreck), Paul and then a Steve Allcoat cameo at the death, 180 odd was knocked off with 7 wickets in hand and 3 overs to spare.

2nd place – 2000 League Cup win 2nds v Kimberley.  Kimberley had won division 2A, we had finished runners up, but both league games had been washed out.  We bowled and fielded well to restrict Kimberley to 160 odd.  With 34 required from 36 balls and 6 wickets in hand Curzo pronounced “Crossers you will p*** this”.  A typical collapse meant 6 were wanted from the final over with 2 wickets in hand.  However the coolest man on the ground Matt Adams hit the first 2 balls for 2 & 4, and was violently hugged by Dave Nicholson at the non strikers end to celebrate victory.

1st place – 2006 League Cup win 2nds v Carrington.  Wollaton turned up 20 minutes from the start to see Carrington going through their 1 hour warm up routine.  On a slow Attenborough wicket, Wollaton managed 160 odd, Ratters, Curzo & Cobbler each getting 30s.  During the tea interval Carrington were deciding who would win the man of the match award, and did get off to a flyer.  However first Colin Elliott going for 10 runs off 9 overs pegged them back, but they still got to 90 – 1. Great 2nd spells from Matt Dams and Saq demolished the middle order, before Ash & myself with the ball and a diving Curzo in the field! kept the pressure on at the end.  8 required from the final over, 9 wickets down. 2 singles from 2 balls then on the 3rd ball the batsman hit the ball to deep mid on, and a red sun hated individual dived full length took the catch and then was promptly engulfed by team mates.

By day I work for a dreary Insurance Company in an 'enthralling' environment ! At the weekends I 'try' to play Cricket with stiff arms and semi co-ordination.

In April 2003 one weekday lunchtime I went to Smiths near the Broadmarsh and glanced at the 2003 Cricketers Who’s Who. Tom Savill was contracted to Middlesex and under his details it said 'Cricketers Particularly Admired'. He mentioned Dennis Lillee-in my view, the greatest fast bowler who ever drew breath -and me ! It is heartwarming for my 'cricket enthusiasm and love of the game' to be acknowleged by Tom who has 'proper cricket ability'.

I would have to mention several excellent moments at Wollaton… Curzo’s hundred against Cav’s, Big John’s catch against Killamarsh, Cover-sliding in the rain against Papp, Paul’s four to win last ball against Retford after his house being on fire, Winning the ‘Jack Elliott’ at Trent Bridge, Gerry’s 5 for 2 against Retford, Tom’s over at Kyle Mills ending with Off Stump cart-wheeling backwards, all Gerry’s stories, every time Ridgers plays, Scott Olivers ‘chats’ with Bobby, Curzo’s ‘fights’, Ed catching Pasty off full blooded pull at Short Leg, The 20-20 final victory against full strength Welbeck with half a side, The Beast against Retford when two of my team mates jointly carried it out, Beating Cavs as Captain, and my two pulled sixes off Lyndon. Will that do?

My favourite memory of a Wollaton game comes from a Sunday Notts/Derby Cup tie.
We rocked up 15 minutes before the start to see Denby complete their pre match warm ups.  They were a strong side with several imports.

We posted just under 200 on a very good wicket and didn’t think it would be enough (Karl got 70 odd).

Pasty then bowled his best ever spell in my opinion, followed by Vince and Gerry and they fell short losing wickets at regular intervals.

As we departed, they were arguing amongst themselves as to how they had lost to a side like Wollaton!!!
