Long Eaton C.C.
v
Wollaton C.C.
Newark Alliance Division 5
Sunday 25 April 2010
A typical type Sunday 2nds effort with regards selection, the 11th man found on Saturday walking his dog round the ground! Yes Bonnie was back but he had no gear as this was in Southampton but that didn’t matter we had a body. Sunday came though and a junior failed to appear. However after various phone calls a quality substitute was found, Suman. Unfortunately he had to be taxied to Long Eaton by Saq who didn’t really know where he was going, and after an extensive tour of Long Eaton was talked in by Young the very Senior & acting scorer.
Crossers amazingly won the toss and on a very sunny day, and a typical Long Eaton track, slow and green decided to bat. Car Keys and Tuna opened up, and needless to say both Car Keys and Suman who would enter the fray later, had to get used to the somewhat slower conditions both wicket and bowling speed compared to them facing the Cavs the previous day. Both openers got starts and both looked in reasonable knick, although both would offer dolly chances that were spilled. Crossers predicted that someone would probably go to a blinder. Both got out having made teens and twenties and after James Cox quickly departed the largest stand of the day between Suman and Bonnie took place.
Bonnie fully kitted in Crossers spare gear (how much kit has he), took a while to get going but he and Suman took advantage of some friendly spin bowling, and at 93 – 3 after 20 overs things looked rosy. Crossers mystic predictions came true as Suman fell to a one handed blinder at mid wicket for 20odd and was quickly followed by Ali and the Matt the “very young” Young. Crossers joined Bonnie who was now getting his range in and the pair briefly threatened, until Crossers having dabbled with slip then was taken at slip and with “One contact only” Hasnan quickly following, Wollaton slumped to 128 – 8 after 29 overs.
With Crossers motioning to Bonnie to launch, the predicted heavy showers arrived. With no covers or sawdust, the wicket was unplayable and at just gone 5pm game over, Bonnie marooned (literally) on 39.
