1st XI v Mansifeld Hosiery Mills Away
Wollaton Losing Draw
Very surprised that there was a game-
Without sounding over dramatic about the windy conditions. Saturday was the Basin Reserve and on Monday it was the Irrawadi Delta without the rain or the death.
Those who bowled into the wind, the Victoria Crosses are on the way. It was also very strange playing without any bails which gave the game a feel of beach cricket. You know what I mean!!??
Hosiery Mills won the toss and batted on a wicket that offered a bit for the bowlers and for batsmen a knowledge of short boundaries a fast outfield (down wind) that created value for good and bad shots.
The A.N.Z.A.C.s opened the bowling with mixed results in the conditions. The first wicket falling to a runout and good work by Scotty. Wollaton then bowled and fielded really well apart from a couple of dropped catches off my bowling!!! They shall remain nameless. With good field settings from Vince we were generally on top of things. Steve won Dick of the day from his proclamation that Kieron Garside was a rubbish bat. You can probably guess that yes he played a blinder with a well stuck 33 and along with Adnan 71 not out added quick runs at the end to get the home side up to 199 for 9. A total that was well within the capabilities and there was confidence in the chase ahead.
Highlights in the field were Eds catch a steepler in the deep with a finger that was broken in 27 places?? My beamer that Steve nonchalantly plucked out of the eye of the storm and 4 wickets for Scott, 3 for Vince and 1 for Mick.
In reply the Gentlemen got off to a very good start with Vince taking the place of the in form Ed after his mishap in the field due to his ever swelling finger. 80 were added for the first wicket. Don’t quote me on these figures, as the web page does not have the fall of wickets entered. A few quick wickets fell but with Karl in and batting well all looked good. Cricket being the game it is with a run out here a bad shot there. Mick you need to leave the reverse sweep in the locker, and may I add some decent accurate spin bowling. The Gentlemen of Wollaton were not looking so good with Karl getting caught on the boundary and the run rate rising. It all came down to the last over needing 11 off 5 balls after Ed being bowled off the first we ended up five runs short 195for 8.
A disappointing result but hopefully some lessons were learnt and 29 points gained over the weekend with 2 exciting games to be involved in were hopefully good entertainment for everyone. Thanks to the supporters who came to lend their support Tricky, Hunty, The Prof, The Rattrays, Martin, Chris Young, and The Kings Plus the scoring of Alex who needs to up his rate of pay. Sorry if I have left anyone out.
Cheers JCB
